The holiday season has come to an end, but that doesn't mean the excitement has to end too. Your workplace should be a place that you enjoy being, especially since we spend most of our time here. And what better way is there to boost company culture and teamwork than with a little workplace fun.
Add a Puzzle Table
If you have been following us on social media, you know that our team loves a good puzzle. During the pandemic we created a little nook where team members could gather around a table and put together a puzzle.
When a team member needs a break, they retreat to the puzzle table. It has become a great area to collaborate and share thoughts all while working together. Each month our team looks forward to completing a new design.
Celebrate Success's Both Big and Small
It's easy to forget about the small success's when you are focused on larger goals. But don't. When you celebrate someone's success, regardless of the size, you are showing appreciation and recognition for a job well done. Employee's are likely to be more productive and driven when they feel recognized and appreciated.
There are many different way's to celebrate someone's success without spending money. Whether it's getting to ring the bell after closing a deal like we see on Netflix's Selling Sunset or sending a company wide email congratulating someone on their hard work, recognition in any way will be enough.
A Friendly Competition
Boost teamwork and collaboration by creating fun activities throughout the year that your team can participate in. Our team loves a friendly competition and we strategically create activities that will allow us to mix and match individuals together from various departments to get to know one another. Some of our favorite competitions are:
Pumpkin Carving Contest (Halloween). See our most recent pumpkin carving competition here.
Best Team Costume Idea (Halloween)
Workspace Theme/Station Decor (Any Holiday)
Chili Cook-off
Bowling
Ax-Throwing
Gingerbread House Creation (Christmas)
Chair Construction from Play-do
You can even create friendly competitions to help meet workplace goals. From a friendly sales competition to the team who receives the most 5 star reviews, a friendly competition makes work a little more exciting.
Team Outings/Happy Hours
Happy Hours are a great way to get your team together for some friendly fun. At IRG, we love to go bowling! After a long week, our team enjoys a few drinks while playing a game or two. But if bowling isn't your thing, then find something that works better for your team--Karaoke, Painting with a Twist, a Cooking Class, etc.
Or keep it simple and end the day a little early and meet at your favorite pub, bar or patio.
Give Back
Find a way to give back to your community. Philanthropy and community service is a great way to get your team out of the office. Research shows people feel empowered when they give back to charity. In fact, according to Forbes, both Millennials and Generation Z gave more than any other generation during our current pandemic.
Now that Millennial's and Generation Z make up more than half of the U.S. population, companies that are cause-focused and make giving back to communities a priority are more likely to attract and retain more talent.
